    Interior Design Course

1 - Who is the Course For?

Anyone with an interest in learning how to put an interior design project together correctly will benefit from this course. It will provide you with the background knowledge required to enable you to take on any project with confidence and see it through to a successful conclusion.

2 - What level of Education or Experience should I have?

A matriculation level is generally advisable, though someone with good drawing skills and an interest in the subject is often enough. The IDAI will ensure that all students' efforts are closely monitored for the duration of the course and helpful advice and backup will be available. A recommended reading list will be provided to assist the student with extra material.

    3 -What Subjects are Covered?

This course contains the information you require in order to identify the style and taste of your client. This is essential in the building of a design scheme, as it is necessary to figure out the needs of your client at the very beginning of a project. More course content details are here

4 - Is the Course Accredited?

This course is accredited by the ODL QC

ODL QC was founded in 1969 as the Council for the Accreditation of Correspondence Colleges, becoming the Open and Distance Learning Quality Council in 1995. Set up at the request of the UK Government, it continues to benefit from governmental support and cooperation, though it is now an independent body, and a registered charity.

Accreditation follows a rigorous assessment of FixLine's administrative and tutorial methods, educational materials and publicity, to ensure that all standards are met.

Once accredited, providers are monitored to ensure that students continue to receive good service, and are re-assessed at least once every three years.

5 - Who Created the Course?

Our Course Director is Orna O'Reilly

Orna qualified in Interior Design in 1976 through Rhodec College, Brighton, England. She moved to South Africa in 1987 where she opened her own Interior design business.

After further qualifications, which included a Higher Diploma (1991) and an Advanced Diploma (1993) in Interior Design, obtained in South Africa through Calder School of Interior Design, Johannesburg, she was accepted as a Full member of South African Guild of Interior Designers (S.A.G.I.D.)

Orna extended her business to Mozambique in 1992 when she made her name refurbishing residences and office suites of several Ambassadors and the directors of aid agencies; houses and apartments for the directors of Banco de Moçambique and Standard Totta Bank; the Hotel Cardoso and the Tribunal Administrivo.

Interior design projects in South Africa included: office suites and private residences for Premier Matthews Phosa of Mpumalanga and other government ministers; restaurants; a hairdressing salon; a golf club; several hotels and guest lodges and numerous private homes.

Some of her work to date is here

    6 - What's the course structure?

The FixLine interior design course is a correspondence course that can be completed in your own time and in your own home. If difficulties arise, there is always a fully qualified tutor who will be assigned to you personally, to advise you as you progress.

7 - How Long will the Course Take?

The course comes in the form of 4 books. These books are designed to be studied together. A total of 10 assignments will be completed during the course. The final examination is in the form of a project, which will be set for each student on completion of the first 9 assignments.

If no re-writing is necessary, the course should take about 1 year to complete and students will be given tips and encouragement to ensure that they stick to a pre-arranged study schedule.

    8 - Will I have Tutor Support?

Our team of experienced interior designers will be on hand to assist you at any time during the duration of your course. You will be given the name of your own particular tutor to phone or email with your queries.
