10 Safety tips for your DIY project

When you undertake any DIY project, it is important to always put safety first, and never bypass a safety precaution to get a project completed faster or to save money.

Here is a list of 10 safety precautions you should take when you carry out your DIY project:

    • Always follow safety directions that are supplied with tools and materials.
    • Unplug electrical tools when making any adjustments to the tool
    • Wear protective clothing such as eye goggles and ear protection when operating power tools.
    • Keep your patience when working, and avoid becoming frustrated or confused.
    • Tie back long hair and avoid wearing baggy clothes when working with machinery.
    • Turn off utilities such as gas, electricity, and water before construction work.
    • When using any material that generates toxic fumes, always ensure there is adequate ventilation.
    • Take extra care when working with ladders. Always follow manufacturer's safety guidelines and avoid working on a ladder without an assistant.
    • If an object is heavy or awkward, get some help lifting it. When lifting heavy objects, it is important to bend your knees and keep your back straight.
    • Plan ahead and make any necessary safety precautions in advance.
