DIY Carpet Repair
Your floor has to endure more wear and tear than any other surface in the home. While many carpets are durable, damage does occur. The most common forms of carpet damage are stains and burns.
Stains
If possible, try to remove a stain as soon as it occurs. Use a spoon to remove any semi-solid material with a spoon. You then want to draw as
much liquid as possible from the carpet. For this, you can use either a paper towel or as clean teatowel. Be careful not to rub the stain deeper
into the carpet. Gently blot the area with the towel rather than rub it. As soon as the towels are wet, replace them with clean ones and repeat
the process. There are many carpet stain removers available. Select the most suitable product and follow its instructions clearly.
Burns
Carpets can easily get burnt from cigarettes, cigars, or from firesparks. When this happens, the most effective method is to cut out the damaged
carpet area and replace it with a piece of fresh carpet rather than replacing the whole carpet.
If you have extra carpet left over from the original installation that will make things easier. If not, you will have to find a piece of carpet on a relatively hidden part of your floor, and cut it out from there.
Using a disused can and a blade, you can cut out a section of carpet
from both the damaged area and the hidden area in the room where you will get the replacement carpet.
Using a can and a blade will allow you to cut out sections from both areas that are the same size and shape.
You can then use tape or glue to fix the new pieces of carpet into place.
